From the Naming Debate
A Wrench
The archaic mystery — etymology contested.
Scattered through eighteenth-century naturalist journals and almost nowhere else. Some scholars trace it to the physical wrench of the neck required to track a warbler through dense foliage; others read it as a corruption of an earlier word lost to use. Whatever its source, it carries a raw, slightly resistant energy: nature refusing to be tidily classified.
The collection that earns this name is still finding its shape.
